There’s something we need to talk about.
Say the
Hard Thing
Most communication training stops at theory. I coach managers and teams through the conversations they have been avoiding, with a clear method and live practice that makes it stick.

Why these conversations are hard
Three things show up at once, and most of us were never taught how to hold them together.
Perspective
Two people see the same situation in genuinely different ways.
Feelings
Emotions are in the room, and they can escalate things fast.
Impact
Something real is riding on how it goes.
- This isn’t working.
- We need to talk about your performance.
- I don’t agree with this direction.
A method you can actually use
Four stages that move a manager from dreading the conversation to handling it well.
Prepare
Stop practicing in the car. Start making choices.
Get clear on the purpose, pick the right time and place, and walk in with a plan instead of a script.
Listen
Curiosity goes first. Defensiveness can wait in the hall.
Their side first. Open questions, real attention, and reframing the negative into something workable.
Share
Say the actual thing, kindly and out loud.
Lead with observable facts rather than opinions, and say what needs saying clearly and directly.
Commit
Agree on what happens next, and write it down so future us remembers.
Decide the next steps and the support together, record them, and schedule the follow up.
“If you’re going to work on improving yourself, be sure to have Gillian coaching you along the way. She is an artist at attentively listening and practicing curiosity to ask impactful questions. She is a master in her craft to connect with her clients and support in their growth. You get coaching to get better, so work with a coach who will support you to get there. Hands down, Gillian will.”
“Working with Gillian has given our managers practical steps to make challenging conversations more effective.”
Four ways to say the hard thing
The Workshop
The full method, taught with real examples your team will recognize from their own week.
The Coaching Lab
Live role play of the conversations they are actually facing, with direct, in the moment coaching.
The Open Door
Up to two sessions a month, used by one leader or shared across an organization’s managers, with priority scheduling. Plus a direct line between sessions: send the conversation at hand, and a game plan comes back within two business days.
Start Without Me
The same method, on your own time. The book, the manager’s toolkit, and a self‑paced course are on the way.
Most teams start with the Workshop, practice in the Lab, and keep the door open from there.
Meet Gillian
I am Gillian Bellinger, a professional development coach with more than twenty years in coaching and facilitation, certified by the Flow Coaching Institute, which is accredited by the International Coaching Federation.
My approach to hard conversations comes from two places: years of coaching leaders through change, and a background in live performance, where the only way to get good is to practice out loud, in the room, with feedback. That is why this work is built on real reps and not just theory.
I work with managers and teams who would rather get the conversation right than keep avoiding it.
Bring it to your team
Virtual sessions for teams of any size. Tell me what your people are walking into, and I will tailor the workshop and the coaching to fit.
